Home Assistant: a private Nest connection

This site describes a private, single-household connection between a self-hosted Home Assistant installation and the Google Nest devices in the same home. The connection uses Google's Smart Device Management API through the Device Access program.

It is not a product, a business or a public service. Nobody can sign up for it, and the only Google account it is ever authorized against belongs to the household that runs it.

What it does

It lets the household's own Home Assistant system read the state of its Nest devices, such as temperature, humidity, thermostat mode and device events, and send the commands the owner chooses, such as changing a thermostat setpoint. Everything runs on hardware inside the home.
